Volunteer Fundraising & Financial Assistance

Raising the funds to pay for your placement can seem daunting.  The thing to remember is that many young people in the same situation as you have managed to do it in the past.  It won’t necessarily be easy, but it can be done, and the process of raising the money is an experience in itself!

So where do you start...

Quick pre – fundraising checklist

  • Work out your budget; how much do you need – refer to "The Costs" section.
  • Plan ahead; the sooner you start fundraising, the more options you can try and the more you will raise
  • Write a letter you can give to prospective sponsors; think about why you are so passionate about volunteering overseas and write a letter!
  • Stay positive; not everyone you approach will be able to support you; Don’t get dis-heartened, there are many causes in the world vying for people’s attention, persevere and you will raise some funds!

"Between full-time work in fast food before I left, and more (even less glamorous) work at the local abattoirs after I got home, I managed to take ownership of my gap year, and even head off to uni with a bit of extra cash tucked away! It was a jam-packed year, but definitely worth all the hard work!"

Financial Assistance

Lattitude Global Volunteering offers a small amount of financial assistance for those who would be unable to take up their placement without monetary support. The amount of Financial Assistance offered varies from $400-$1000 depending on individual circumstances and how much financial support you will need to be able to take up your placement. Successful applicants will have the amount granted deducted from their Lattitude Contribution Fee. Any amount granted will not cover your entire Lattitude fees so it is important that you try to raise as much money as you can for your placement yourself – either through fundraising and/or work!

How to apply

Interested applicants need to complete a Financial Assistance Application Form, which includes details of any funds you will be able to raise, any financial commitments you have and include one reference.

To apply, download the Financial Assistance Application Form and return to Lattitude with reference no later than 4 weeks prior to the payment deadline of your final Lattitude invoice.

Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by post. Successful applicants will be sent a new invoice revised in accordance to the amount of Financial Assistance granted.
